Week 10, Writing Exam III Persuasive Essay #2, The Harbinger

I have spent all of the past four days grading Expository Essays, I am almost blind but I should finish in the next couple days and move on to the next writing exams...

This week is very short, we will try to finish the second half of the chapter in the Harbinger we started on Wednesday. We'll have to make some real pushes if we hope to finish it in class, otherwise it will become weekend reading for you all.

Tuesday we'll have conversation for 45 minutes with the interns Ana and Leane. Wednesday we will read and prep for the exam on Thursday. You'll want to have a basic outline with the thesis statement and conclusion completed and few of the subtopics listed. 350 words in one hour.

"In case of unplanned pregnancy which of the two options function best for you; abortion or adoption and why, defending your position and persuading the audience that it is the best choice."

Next week you'll receive the table of contents for your portfolios which are due on November 4th and your scripts for the Plays. I would like to know your thoughts on these topics especially the Plays-we have always done comedies and dramas, but this time I am considering a musical depending on how you all feel about singing and dancing.

  1. Hi Classmates!!
The plays are amazing, I love it, I think is another way to practice our speaking, and it is funny.
A musical sounds a good Idea I love to dance, and sing but I do this only when I take a shower jajaja!! but it could works if we practice on classes. This is our last semester we can enjoy it more and do something different like a musical. :)

  2. Hello Classmates
I think plays are really good to practice our English, because we need and understand pronunciation, coordination, intonation and in conclusion we can develop our knowledge, besides losing the fear of speaking in the presence of others.

    4. Hi Memo! I agree with you, I think the most important thing you mentioned is the fact of losing the fear because it doesn´t matter if we do have the skills but we don´t practice them.

  3. I like the Plays, because we work with other classmates and at the begging sounds not a good idea, but then it is amazing and so funny, because you act in the way of the role you must.
And when we present the Play, is exciting because is very important that the other people understand you, and this is the most “hard”. But it is a good experience.

    2. Hi Dany, the most important thing in the play is that we work witht other person that maybe we don´t meet very well and after the play, we are friends.

  4. Hi classmates, plays is a good idea to do the class interactive and practice all our skills. Cindy, you are one of the few teachers that makes the classes interesting and fun.
The last play that I did with Cindy (last semester) was nice, I loved work with my team.

I would like we do not have to say long dialogues, in this manner we will not be stressful.
I have to confess, I am really bad singing and dancing, but i can try dance, sing no, any way, I´m really bad!

  6. Hi everyone, well, to make a play is a fun activity and the plays help yo to practice your pronunciation and help you to work in groups and meet a little more your partners. To make a musical, I believe that I wouldn´t like much because I don´t sing good and to act neither. I prefer the normal play. :)

  7. I think I sing horrible, so while we do something like play in groups or make an activity for improving our skills it's OK.

The best option undoubtely in playing in groups making a healthy competition, and maybe we could win something (candys, points etc).

  9. I love singing and dancing wherefore I'm glad for making a musical (something new is not going to hurt anybody) but if I will play the same characters that i played this last semester it will be easier for me so... I'm agree with both stuff.

  10. Hello everyone!,

Well, I honestly I don´t like the musicals very much, and even that I love dancing I would prefer to don`t sing because I don´t like very much the way I do it hahaha. However, as Paris mentioned before, I think working on teams would be a great opportunity to compete in a healthy way while we have some fun.

  11. Hi classmates! well I'd would like to say that i'm really enjoying the activities of class, and last semester the plays were very fun, so I think to act is a good idea, but the thing is that I'm not brave enough to sing or dance in a musical, and i'm not sure i could make it. Talking about the exam, it was a very hard topic to talk about and probably was one of the biggest challenges I've have, it was very hard to choose between that options, but at the end I think I decided. I hope i made it well.

  12. Hi! I like the plays because I think that are fun, and you can get closer to your classmates, but the truth is that I am not sure about sing, I like dancing, but I can't sing, nevertheless, maybe I would get a better pronunciation through sing.

  13. Hi! I'm really exited with the plays and maybe a musical it would be interesting. I'm not so good to sing but, I will do my best. I think that this activities are a good way to improve fluency.
