This is going to be a very short week. Tuesday we'll have guests. Wednesday we'll prepare for the Exam on Thursday and talk about the Abstracts for your Expository Essays which are due next Monday September 23rd by 10:00AM.
The first web page is a list by country of the poverty index; Please find two countries that interest you without duplicating another student and post on its' poverty level. I have gone and investigated this and it is pretty scary stuff.
The second web page is the endangered species list by country: Please find the standing of the countries which you investigated above and list 3 animals which are endangered that you find interesting.

ReplyDeleteChecking the poverty rates page, I took 2 countries in dire need: Democratic Republic of Congo with purchasing power per person, dollars 1.25 (87.72%) and 2 dollars (95.15%) by day and Liberia with purchasing power person, to 1.25 dollars (83.76) and 2 dollars (94.88) per day. Which, I think is really horrible, because with 2 dollars per day, you can not meet your basic needs, the daily food.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the endangered animals in Democratic Republic of Congo, I'm surprised to see the African elephant endangered, like the African lion and cheetah. In Liberia some animals that struck me are the chimpanzee, leopard and hippo. Animals we see or know but we do not realize that they are in danger of extinction.
Hi! I chose African countries too! And yes, it´s hard to know that communal animals that we see in programs or in the zoo are in dangerous and we do not realize! I guess, we need to be more informed.
DeleteHi Jimena!
DeleteEven we see these animals in Disney movies and we think that everything its all right, but the true is that in the 21st century, where we have a lot of regulations and treaties, there are some people who live to hunt animals

ReplyDeleteIndia 32.67 68.72 2010,
ReplyDeleteMexico 1.15 5.19 2008,
I searched Mexico and I Got 1060 diferents results... It's too sad.
Margay
Jaguar
Mexican Bobcat
(They are Mexican Cats)
and just for their furs...
wow! That´s incredible! I can´t believe that people prefer kill an animal and have a sweater, shoes or a bag.
DeleteHi!
DeleteI searched Mexico too and you're right, is very sad to see the amount of endangered animals that we have in Mexico
Well, I saw all the list and is very sad know people earn very little money per day and here, in México for example, deputies earn million of pesos. Life is very hard nowadays and earn only 2 dollar, I guess is difficult survive, I can´t imagine their suffering or sacrifice to feed families with 2 dollar by day.
ReplyDeleteI chose 2 countries with high index of poverty like my classmate Guillermo. The first is Zambia, located in Africa with purchasing power per person, dollars 1.25 (68.51%) and 2 dollars (82.55%) by day, and Tanzania located in Africa too, near to Zambia with purchasing power person, to 1.25 dollars (67.87%) and 2 dollars (87.87%) by day.
Zambia: Lappet-faced Vulture (bird), Lilian's Lovebird (bird) and Oreochromis macrochir (fish). Tanzania: Abbott's Duiker (mammals), Acropora Coral (Corals, Jellyfish, and Sea Anemones) and Bridouxia ponsonbyi (snails). While i was looking the animals, I could see there are many endangered species, and I feel sad, because it´s our fault that the animals are in this situation, we do not look after of them.
Hello classmate!
DeleteI´m agree with you Jimena about the people in México, like deputies and senators who make millions of dollars doing the minimum and where people, like Africans that need to do a lot effort, earns a paltry money to survive.
Hi Jime, only you have a small finger mistake, you wrote: Life is very hard nowadays and earn only 2 dollar... and it will be: 2 dollars :)
DeleteHi Jimena!
DeleteI totally agree with you about the millions that earned by politicians as the people have so much poverty
Hi Jimena!
DeleteYes, it´s very shocking but in a world and country like ours, the politicians, who are supposed to care about the interest of the people earn lots of money while other people is dying for malnutrition.
In the fist link, I choose Brazil with 6-20% of poverty
ReplyDeletethe second link I search the animals and plants in endangered and they are Alagoas Antwren(Bird), Alcatrazes Lancehead (reptile), Angular Angelshark (Fish).
My second option is Haiti with over 80% of poverty, the animals in endangered are American Crocodile (reptile), Bay-breasted Cuckoo (bird) and Cuban Lesser Funnel-eared Bat (mammal).
I think Haiti is one of the most poor country in America.
I scare the bats, but we must protect them because I think that they are animals very mysterious.
DeleteHi guys!
ReplyDeleteI´VE BEEN WATCHING THE FACTS... AND IT´S SO AMAZING! I MEAN, IT´S UNBELIEVABLE THAT SOMEONE CAN LIVE WITH LESS THAN 2 USD PER DAY. I JUST CANT´T IMAGINE IT. AND I BELIVE THAT THIS FACTS SHOULD MEKE US THINK IN THE GREAT LOCATION IN THAT WE ARE AND HOW MUCH OUR RESOURCES ARE WESTED.
SO, I CHOSE URUGUAY AND UKRAINE. THE FIRST ONE HAS LESS THA .20% OF THE POPULATION LIVING UNDER 1.25 A DAY. AND 1.18% UNDER 2.00 USD A DAY.
THE SECOND ONE, UKRAINE,THERE, THE PERCENTAGE OF THE POPULATION WHO LIVE WITH LESS THAN 1.5 USD IS .06 AND 2 USD A DAY IS .17
Hi Chy, I think that you have a little mistake of finger, it will be: MAKE not MEKE and THAT not THA. :)
DeleteHi classmates!
ReplyDeleteI have seen the web site about poverty index and I realized that the most current information that exist is of the year 2010, so, we´re on 2013, I believe that now there is more poverty. Well, I chose Switzerland and Jordan.
For the first one according with Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has 6.9% of national poverty line. Switzerland has 68 endangered species and I chose: Eurasian Otter (mammals), Ivory Gull (bird) and European Eel (fishes).
The second Country has 13.3 % according with World Bank (2008) of national poverty line. Jordan has 192 endangered species and I choise: Red Kite (bird), Starry Cup Coral (coral) and Long-fingered Bat (mammals). Here there are more corals, jellyfish, and sea anemones endangered species.
Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteI chose 2 countries with high index of poverty. The first is Mexico with purchasing power per person dollars 1.15 and 2 dollars 5.19 by day, and Peru with purchasing power person to 4.91 dollars and 2 dollars (12.74) by day.
About the Endangered Species in Mexico: Abronia deppii (Reptiles), Acritodon nephophilus (Plants), Acropora Coral (Corals, Jellyfish, and Sea Anemones), between others.
In Peru: Abra Acanacu Marsupial Frog (Amphibians), Acca lanuginosa (plants), Amazonian Parrotlet (birds), between others.
It´s incredible how many endangered animals exist not only in these countries but all over the world, I think we should be of this and act before it is too late.
It was surprised coral are endangered too. Because we can think not many people could enter the see, or is less common, but I think the contamination is ending with this species and that is sad.
DeleteDany, I think that you wanted to say sea insetad see :)
DeleteThis is a list it wasn’t a surprise to me, and most of them are in Africa and I was a question that seems obvious, the principal problem is the government? Or what is going on which these cities? I chose Mexico and Chile, and a teacher said me that in Chile the things are more expensive. And, I suppose that if is more expensive, could be they have better than us, because the teacher also said us the people have to pay it because their salary is reciprocal, but in the list says Chile is more poor than Mexico, and here, maybe is not expensive, but there are millions people out of money, but a little list of rich people. I don’t know well what is going on; the government really doesn’t do anything? They don’t have priorities? They include this people in theirs problems to attack? What am I doing us?
ReplyDeleteAbout the animals I choose birds, because could be is a range hardest to specie could die, because they can get away, so I chose flamingo, I love this bird, and is sad to know it is endangered, it’s a beautiful bird, and it is so import to rescue because is a Chilean specie, and I can’t believe it Mexican Woodnymph are a specie in danger, I have seen since I was a child, and there are the faster bird in the world I guess, I like animals, and I don’t like the birds are prisoner, they need to be free, so help us.
Afghanistan is one of the world's poorest countries. It has suffered from decades of conflict and disasters, such as droughts and floods, earthquakes and now the crisis in food prices.Almost 40 percent of the Afghanistan population lives in poverty. The future of that country will be uncertain because only half of children are in school
ReplyDeleteNepal Currently about 3.4 million Nepali receiving food for them to survive, because they do not have enough money to buy food. Besides insufficient health facilities and missing medications are delivered free to the poor. All the people only think in the Himalaya to be closer to heaven or God. but why they don't looking to be closer to his brothers of Nepal?
Animals Javan Rhinoceros in the world only 60
Snow Leopard in the world only we have 5000
I read your choices and I realize that some of you chose Mexico, and it's ok but I think that we have to know more than our territory limits.
ReplyDeleteWell, anyway, it was hard to chose the 2 contries because i don't know a lot about Geograpfy or Stadistics and I had to investigate.
There are 89 mammal species of which 3 are critically endangered, 12 are endangered, 16 are vulnerable, and 4 are near-threatened. Some of them are Asiatic Black Bear, Javan Rhinoceros, Seladang.
So I chose Bangladesh, which is situated in South Asia with a population of more than 160 million people in a territory of 56,977 sq mi and 29% of that living under 1.25 dollar (PPP) a day.
I chose El Salvador wich is in Central America population of approximately 5,744,113 people and 8.97% of that living under 1.25 dollar (PPP) a day.
There are 144 mammal species in El Salvador, of which 0 are critically endangered, 1 is endangered, 3 are vulnerable, and 2 are near-threatened.
I choosed Burundi and Lithuania. The percentage of people living under $1.25 is 81.32% and the population living under $2 dollars per day is 93.45%.
ReplyDeleteSome of the endanged species is Burundi Ahl's Reed Frog, Congo Bay-owl and Delany's Swamp Mouse. Some of the endanger species is the European Bison, Aquatic Warbler and Maraene.
In conclusion in the countries with more level of poverty are more endanger species.
Poverty figures are shocking, I used to feel very bad about the situation of the people of Africa, for its extreme poverty, the more sencible children. And it is as incomprehensible situcion; Africa posee'una biodiversity and recurzos huge, as for your people do not suffer. But as always, the corruption is not allowed to reach the people resources.
ReplyDeleteBut do not go so far, nothing more must-see situcion of indigenous, peasants and poor people of South America.
In the world there are enough resources for everyone. The administration and social organization is what fails.
Hi guys!
ReplyDeleteLooking at the web site about poverty index, I am also surprised that someone can live with less than 2 USD per day. I decided on Central Africa Republic with purchasing power per person a day of $1.25 62.83 and $2.00 80.09 in 2008.
Respect the endangered animals The Prancing Papio in Africa and the Sharks in Madagascar.
