Week 4: Exploring the World Around Us, Exams etc.
Last week you spoke of travel, where you've been or where you'd like to go. This week I would like you to visit this web site: http://cpi.transparency.org/cpi2012/results/ And look up the countries you talked about visiting, below the big map on this web site there is a list of every country in the world and its' corruption index. The corruption index is based and 9 categories of corruption and each country's corruption level is decided by its' citizens not the government! So check it out and report back here.
I was disappointed by the Writing Exams, many of you did not do well, some of you did an excellent job with scores of 10.5, but that being said the class average was an 8.0 which means there were more low grades than high ones. If you did poorly based on writing conventions, please make time to see me or at least go to the CAADI and get some help before the next exam.
Also I would like to see your feedback about the book, the class, the game, and the topics for the Expository Essays which will be posted for you to choose from starting today. I would like everyone to choose a topic before Thursday, Remember the topics are not central to Mexico they are WORLDWIDE to get you to think outside what is known to you. Please if you plan to study, practice or work abroad I would also like you to talk about that here, Please do not forget to be correcting each other.
I think Mexico should be in 0-10, USA looks secure.
ReplyDeleteI think the book is interesting but I don't like the topic. I liked the game last semester it was funny. Expository Essays are coming again!? u_u!
I really want to travel for practice my languages,I will start with english and french. I'm still not sure but maybe I will visit my family in Usa next year.
Hello Beto, I know you really want to travel to practice your languages or for practicing your languages, I am sure you will do it, I send you my best regards.

DeleteHi Beto, I'm sure it will fulfill your desire to travel to other countries, then you're very young and enthusiastic; continues to prepare!
DeleteWell, I think the class is good, I really like it I speak, read and play with my classmates. Honestly, the book is confused I try to read and read and I'm lose.
ReplyDeleteThe expository essay are very exited, see the expositions, any kind of information is really cute and funny and I get nervous when I present my topic but it is part of the show.
Hi gaby, you have a little mistake, I guess you tried to say "exciting" instead of " exited".
DeleteYeah! I agree with you Gaby, the expositions are amazing, I like it because I really understand what they're saying, and It’s interesting know about other topics and have something to say to my friends, it seems like another level because we are talking and understanding well I guess.
DeleteGabby,
DeleteYou said "Honestly, the book is confused I try to read and read and I'm lose."
You should have said, "Honestly, the book is confusing to me; I try to read and read BUT I'm lost."
Thank you girls !!
DeleteUK, specifically Liverpool is the place where I want to go traveling, as I mentioned last week. Investigating the page that provided us Cindy, UK has a low percentage of corruption, as it sits at number 17 with a 71 percent CI: lower and 77 CI: upper, which according to page 100 is seen as countries with low corruption.
ReplyDeleteAbout the Book "the harbinger", seems to my very interesting, since everything concerning conspiracies, enigmas or prophecies, I like much.
About the class, I like the way of interleaving activities, because classes are often monotonous boring, but games, reading, exercise, movies, etc.., Make the class dynamic.
I like go to class, because as Memo says, the different dynamics turn class interesting, and we practice our skills.
DeleteThe class is like clay "play do", we sing, we play, we learn, is very dynamic
DeleteMeno,
DeleteYou said "About the Book "the harbinger", seems to my very interesting, since everything concerning conspiracies, enigmas or prophecies, I like much."
You should have said, "About the Book "The Harbinger", (it) seems very interesting (to me), since everything concerning conspiracies, enigmas or prophecies, I like (very) much."
AND I'm unsure about what you are referring to but I think it may be "Play Doh"
Do you think Itreat you like children? That is NOT my intent, I'm merely trying to keep you all interested and mixing activities really helps you not to be sleeping in my classes especially my 7pm group.
I think London is a dream of many of us, in that i'm agree with you!
DeleteSorry Cindy, I mean with "Play doh" that your class is very dinamic and that we can increase our knowledge in various ways, like singing with lyrics, reading the book, do the exercises, etc.
DeleteAbout my vacation to the United States, I went to Disneyland in Miami Florida there is a 70 to 79% of corruption in the graffics , well I think like drugs are permitted in de USA there is corruption because as the authorities permit it, the youth consume it,and that´s why they commit corruption.
ReplyDeleteWell my feedback about the Harbinger, I like this book very much, I think it is the reality, we are living that of the seals, like you see in WTC we have to give God´s place in our lives to be in peace.
ReplyDeleteThe class: I like the class very much also, I like to read, to sing, to do exercises and the games.
Hi everyone! :D
ReplyDeleteWow! I´m kind of surprised with Mexico and his level of corruption. Mexico is smaller than China or India, and they have the same level of corruption... What´s going on with our country?
About the book, I like the topic, it is interesting but at same time confusing.
I like class, we practice all our skills and clarify our doubts. I enjoy listen activities, and one of my best times is when everybody have to sing and follow the pace (sometimes it´s dificult ). Cindy, you are very good teacher, you always interested in the welfare of students.
Expository Essays are hard to do it, but I like it because we share our research and we learn more about not only our own topic. Obviously expose in front of the group is very difficult, but it helps us grow as people.
I hope have a better exposition than the other time, and yes, it's difficult because we need learn very well what we are saying.
DeleteI´m agree with you Jimena, expository essay its hard to do it, the last semester I explained the issue of global warming, and it is difficult to explain to the group, especially because you have to find a way to tell what is really clear case of issues not often investigated
DeleteHi Ximena! I know it´s very surprising the corruption level in Mexico. It´s a very sad situation to live in a country rich in lots of resources but whithout transparency in many sectors.
DeleteHi Jime, I´m agree with you, Cindy is a great teacher. She is interested that all of us reach the success and develop our skills.

ReplyDeleteIt’s a little sad to see Mexico at the end of the list, but I know also I’m responsible of this, in this time it’s difficult to live here, because rich people have the power but I want to do something, I am sure I’ll achieve, I want to have power, the power to give hope in people, who says I can’t, I want to give power to creative people, and do something good for my country, we need start from the bottom, we need to trust us. The change is slow but we can, before we want to change or be famous in another place, we think that Mexico need us. I think so.
ReplyDeleteAbout the class, I like it, time passes very fast, and at the same time I’m learning, I like to read and correct my pronunciation, it’s the most important to me for this semester, also I like the games, Teacher I’m waiting to play “categories”! and about the book, it’s interesting but a little hard, because when I was answered the quiz it seems to me the answer could be more than one, and I didn’t know what are you asking me. If I knew more about it, will be easier but, the reading is ok, just I need read more than two times.
Hi Dani! I agree with you, I think that if we want to have a better place to live in we should start by changing the way we act in certain situations. I also think that we should try to make a change in our country before trying to be succesful abroad.
DeleteI agree with you! it's really sad to see that Mexico is in that place, but we all are the responsibles of this. I also agree about the book, it's kind of hard to understand everything and then answer the quiz, but we just have to read an reread.
DeleteHi Daniela, I agree with you, it's a shame that Mexico is in this position, regarding the corrupsion, I think we can always to amend way, and the young scholars fresh proactive and will make the difference, right!
DeleteOne of the most important desires in my life is to travel , though I have not done much , I have seen a lot of films and therefore know I have a fascination with places like New York , Philadelphia , San Francisco etc . Countries where I have no fear of go like the Middle East or India because I fear being trapped there for political situations. we'll see
ReplyDeleteMartha,
DeleteI am unsure of what you are trying to say in the last sentence. Do you mean that you are afraid to travel to the Middle East and India, because of their political instability?
Hi Cindy , exactly I have fear of being trapped in a country that is going through anarchy.

ReplyDeleteThe first place with less corruption is London, then Spain, Venecia and in last place Mexico.
ReplyDeleteI read that the principal case of corruption in London is poor utilization of public spending, because the politicians responsible for the administration of public resources only stole the money or use for your convenience.
In Spain, is due mostly to public office are given to people who are in politics or politician friends, that is, as political favors, causing the people who work in these public positions have insertidumbre constant derived from the following elections, expecting they will be fired then they which makes bribe to get as much as possible of money.
Vececia (Italy), is considered the most corrupt country in the European Union, due to the misuse of public funds.
In last place MEXICO, I think the principal problem of corruption is the extreme poverty and have the same problems of the other places before mentioned, BAD ADMINISTRATIONS AND TERRIBLE GOVERNMENTS.
Sadly, because We have the most beautiful and amazin country.
Alejandra,
DeleteI wouldn't allow the corruption levels to keep me from traveling. Travel is such an awesome way to really change yourself, not in anyway which is or could be BAD it is all GOOD.
You learn so much, not just about other cultures, history, and meeting new people, but you also learn things about yourself which you may never know otherwise. It can also open doors to a lifestyle which could be better than what you expected for yourself.
My dream always have been traveling to England, and it's good to see that if sometime I have the opportunity to visit that country probably i'm not going to find a high index of corruption according to the chart, and another few countries in the European Union, a good place to go too would be Canada and Australia, it would be great to visit them.
ReplyDeleteAnd talking about the class, I'm really enjoying it specially the book, I think is a great issue to think about, the game was great! I really like playing, i get very into the games.
One of my dreams is visit England too. I wish you the best, and hopefully you will go soon.
DeleteI want to study abroad in Canada or Spain for a Master degree; these are one of the best options in Interior design. Canada I would like it more because, I could practice my English and French.
ReplyDeleteAbout the book, I agree with Gabby as the same, the book is confusing to me a little. I love the games in clase. And about the expository essays, I really enjoy investigate topics that have a world impact.
Hi Danae, I agree with you, to investigate topics because it´s worlwide.
DeleteI would really like to go to Germany. It´s good to know that this country occupies the place thirteen in the corruption index. I also would like to visit countries in Southamerica like Chile and Peru and it really surprises me that they occupy lower places in corruption.
ReplyDeleteHi Lu! I think Germany is a really beautiful country and one of the best options to visit, I really hope you could go to all that places someday!
DeleteThank you Cbas :)
DeleteAbout the class, I like to read the book because it has helped me to practice pronunciation, vocabulary and fluency. I think the game was very funny and useful to practice vocabulary in a very agile way. This is going to be the first time I make an expository essay and a presentation about it; however, I believe it´s going to be great to learn about different worldwide topics through mi classmates and, at the same time, investigate and learn about my topic and try to explain it in the best way possible.
ReplyDeleteHi Lu, you have a little mistake: mi classmates and it will be: MY classmates.
DeleteIt´s true, I didn´t realize. Thank you, Carmen!

ReplyDeleteI think the book is really interesting even though the topic is not one of my favorites. Neither the gender. But I'm very intrigued on what's going to happen next and I think this book has a way to keep you interested.
ReplyDeleteAbout the game, I would have liked that we were more people in the 5:45 class, otherwise is not that fun :(. We were only 6 people in the room
My expository essay is World Poverty I think is a topic very important because porverty is affecting people from all over the world. I'm also looking forward to look at my classmates essays :D It will be interesting to learn about things that are concerned worldwide and stop being focused only on our country.
Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteI would like to go Unites States and France. I believe that the web site that Cindy gave us is very interesting and is of great help not only to go of trip but for a business level. The United States is in the place 19 and France is in the place 22.
I think that the English class has an excellent academic level because we can develop every part that English demands and at the same time our skills develop.
Personally, I like to read and with this we can learn more vocabulary and the Expository Essay is difficult to do but very wealth-producingly.
Hi everybody!
ReplyDeleteI really like the web site and I really get amazed by the information, also I'm really happy because Belgium is in the 16 place.
About the class, I think it's really funny and interesting and I really like it because of the reading the talking, the games and everything. I'm kind of nervous about the presentations, but I want to do it as soon as possible.
Finally, about, the expository essay, I'm kind of worried to, because I think it's kinda difficult, but nothing is impossible!
hello the last week I talk about 4 countries in the ranking
ReplyDeleteall the countries have more security than mexico. France in the place 22. Canada in the place 9. Thailand the place 88. and Egypt place 32.
why mexico are bad in security?
we need more education to loss BAD ADMINISTRATIONS AND TERRIBLE GOVERNMENTS
Hi! I´m late, sorry.
ReplyDeleteSincerely, I expected to Mexico in a lower line of corruption. This expectation just demonstrate that we are living conscienceless every day and we are allowing many of these acts too.
Another observation that I did, is that Mexico, in this scale is surrounded by third world countries or developing. Its sad but is pretty deserved that position because corruption is everywhere since a simple transact until President Elections.
Talking about classroom I enjoying a lot the book I thing that is an easy reading an has an interest vocabulary content.
