My favorite author is Oscar Wilde, I love "The picture of Dorian Gray", it's a very interesting novel. What would you do if you could move your age to a painting and instead of you the painting get old?
ReplyDeleteAbout the poetry, I love the poem "Phenomenal Woman" wrote by Maya Angelou. It's a great poem for girls. So, if you girls have the time, you can read it here :D

I agree with you. Oscar Wilde was an extraordinary author. I like "The importance of being Earnest" it is also great.
DeleteThank's for share the poem. It is amazing.
Phenomenal woman,That's me...Super Like!! ;)
I totally agree about the novel of " the picture of Dorian Gray" of Oscar Wilde, enjoyed reading it and find the topic very interesting, filosofically speaking.
DeleteIt makes me think about a man who gave his soul to the evil to remain young and handsome forever. So all along the years he become a diferent person, darker and mean.
Maybe, being a good-lookind person has more drawbacks than advantages, because everybody wants you and has a great consideration about you. And it mays be hard to be up to it.
Furthermore, you may freak out to loose this appearance and this gift can turn into a curse...
I don´t use to read poetry but I would like it, so I´m going to take your advice and I´ll read The "phenomenal woman" poem. :) thanks.
Deleteyes.! I agree with you too.! I love Oscar Wilde too.! Actually the last vacation I read several stories of him. I don`t know why exactly but I remember my childhood, perhaps because there are some stories of him that I read as a child and now I`m fascinated by their novels.
DeletehELLO jENNY!
DeleteI relly liked very much reeding Oscar Wild with The Picture of Dorian Gray it caused terror to me reeding it. Now ther is a movie, I think it is very well done. The thing is that he had a beautiful face but his alm was really bad like the picture, well see you bye bye.
I don't have a favorite author but I really like "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. I like this romantic novel that keeps you immersed in the story.
ReplyDeleteI didn't take class last semester but I searched poems at Internet and I found one that sounds good...It calls Barter by Sara Teasdale (http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/175276). I chose it because I'm very optimistic and this poem conveys that the joys in life do outweigh the sorrows. The happiness will always overcome :)
I want to "Read Pride and Prejudice" maybe that could be a great option to me to start reading novels in English.
DeleteSome years ago I read "Pride and Prejudice" and is a n very romantic novel I like a lot!! and in my opinion is good option.
DeleteIs a good proposal, I agree with all your plans Teacher. Really I don't usually read too much but I prefer the novels of Arthur Conan Doyle, have really good histories, his character most famous is Sherlock Holmes and this inspector have a lot of cases very interesting, while you read the history you can imagine who is the villain but at the end explain all and is weird when the idea you have is correct. The activity to read “the Harbinger” helps me a lot with vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the Harbinger, it helps me to improve my vocabulary and my pronunciation.
DeleteI agree with you too because the Harbinger helps me to learn vocabulary and to comprehension, and also it is a very interesting book.
DeleteI like to read the Harbinger at class too. I think it will help me to extend my vocabulary, to improve my reading outloud, and I am learning some History! (:
DeleteHi Ricardo!
DeleteI agree with you about the novels of Arthur Conan Doyle! I like so much too. I enjoy read detective novel. I think that you will like the books of Henning Mankell. He is an excellent author on that topics. I recommend it to you.
Regard to read the Harbinger in class. I think that it is a good idea because it´s a interesting book and it help us in our reading comprehension and pronunciation.
I rather read literature in Spanish than in English, my favorite writer is Ignacio Manuel Altamirano he makes me feel inside of the history and I almost can touch what he is describing. The only one book in English I have read was Twilight and I didn't like it! About music I love Keane and everyday I'm singing songs in English, maybe you could identify them with Somewhere Only We Know. I like some other bands like Florence and the Machine, The Killers,Coldplay and so on.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, I think you and I have the same taste for music, I like very much the song "Somewhere Only We Know" have you ever heard Darren Criss version?. By the way I like Florence and the Machine too, she is so euphoric, my favorite song is "Shake It Out".
DeleteYou may like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWG-dDYvybY
I like Florence and the Machine too, and Somewhere only we know is one of my favorite songs ever... And of Coldplay I love Yellow!
DeleteRobert Nesta Marley Booker better known as Bob Marley was a musician, Jamaican guitarist and composer. In Jamaica is an icon and leading exponent of this country. was not only a musician, also participated in the First World War, belonging to the england armed forces. the lyrics of their songs are very good and many of them talk about social realities. He died in Miami, United States, May 11, 1981 from cancer.
ReplyDeleteanother of my favorite singers is Farrokh Bomi Bulsaram better known as Freddy Mercury was a singer, songwriter and British musician of Indian origin, known for being the founder and lead singer of the rock band Queen. As a performer, has been recognized for his powerful vocals and flamboyant performances. As a composer, he wrote many hits such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, Somebody to Love, Do not Stop Me Now, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Barcelona and We Are the Champions. He died of bronchopneumonia complicated by AIDS on 24 November 1991.
I recommend these singers ... were very famous, and after his death still remain. also the people listen their music because the letters are very good. the lyrics make that you feel identified with it....
Deleteoh! I agree with you because Queen was one of the best rock band of 70´s. This rock band incorporated more diverse and innovative styles in their music (like operates, classic music and rock! all together!). I really like Queen, was awesome!
DeleteI love Queen. I am very happy to meet people who likes Freddie Mercury. I think the song "Love of my life" is pure poetry. Here is the link... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUJkCXE4sAA
DeleteReally good music, I also enjoy a lot Queen music. By the I couldn´t agree more, LOVE OF MY LIFE, an amazing song. However Bohemian Rhapsody and Don´t Stop Me Now are my favorite ones.
DeleteHey Donovan I agree with you that Queen was a great band and a great singer Bob Marley, but I doubt he ever fought in the First World War and I think even in the second one.
ReplyDeleteBy the way also feel free to include also the doors!!with the great Jim Morrison!!
As great musicians go, there are a few still living who top the scales... Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Jonny Lang, and Tracy Chapman to name a few. Freddie Mercury won hearts all over the world. Robin Gibb also had amazing composing and singing talent.
DeleteThe only war Bob Marley ever fought was the Jamaican civil war and he was merely an activist who used his music to tell the stories of the oppressed.
My favorite writer is Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, my favorites British authors are undoubtedly Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde,my favorite literary works are Selfish Giant, The Canterville Ghost, The Nightingale and the Rose, obviously Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. DeleteI totally share your taste for Shakespeare, I like all the work you talked about and I would like to add one of his poem which caught my attention: "Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind".
DeleteOscar Wilde is an excellent writer and I share your taste for Harry Potter saga, I like so much the way Rowling describes situations and her big imagination.
DeleteAbout my favorite british litterature, I'd like to talk about George Orwell who wrote "1984" and Aldous Huxley who created "Brave new world".
ReplyDeleteI love this two authors because they both, in two diferents ways, draw a dystopia in which the people is controled by a totalitarian political system.
In this historical context of "between the two World Wars" Huxley try to think about a better world to avoid the anarchy. A world where even birthes are controled, to make sure that the society will be happy and stable.
In the context of post Worl War II and beginning of the Cold War, Orwell make a very dark satire of a world ruled by three big countries. Each of them has a huge control on his society, using massiv propaganda, caste system and hatred to keep his people stable and submissive.
I think "1984" is an amazing book. It kept me thinking a lot about how is the best way to control the society. I agree with you about how he tried to communicate the way all the world was living at that time. It's pretty interesting.
DeleteI only have read one book in English and it is "Harry Potter and the halfblood prince". But I usually read spanish translations from english books like "the Analyst" from John Katzenbach, "The Eight" from Katherine Neville, "Wuthering Heights" from Emily Bronte, and others. DeleteI've only read a Jeremy Haarmer, who is a teacher. A teacher trainer, and an author of books and articles for both teachers and students of English as a foreign or second language. He gives us some tools on how to teach this language to teenagers. I like this author, because he gives us many examples of how to teach.
ReplyDeleteTwo years ago I read "David Copperfield" by Charles Dickens. It was my first book in English and for that is special. I've always liked terror and mystery in the literature, so I like "Murder on the Orient Express" and other books by Agatha Christie.

The author is a British woman named Victoria Holt and the book is really good, I love it. I have read other books like Harry Potter (the seven) and I like them too. DeleteHi! Everyone, I am an insane reader. I read about everything that catch my attention when I go to the library. Nowadays I am reading ¨The psicoanalist¨ by John Katzenbach it is a page-turner, however is in Spanish. Also I am reading a novel called ¨Dirt¨ by Stuart Woods, actually it is an amazing story about blackmail, murder, suspense and love; this one is in English. As you can see, I do not have a favorite author, although I think Garcia Marquez is a God of literature; One Hundred Years of Solitude is wonderful, you cannot stop read it.
ReplyDeleteTalking about poetry, I think is an incredible way to express your feelings. I found in poems the form to say what I feel and I cannot say in ordinary words. By the way I wrote a book of at least 20 poems when I was in high school. The latest Valentine´s Day I read a wonderful poem called ¨Chemical Love, (Amor de químico) but is in Spanish and certainly is anonymous. I am studying Chemistry, that´s why I really love this poem.

My favorites writers are Gabriel García Márquez and Henning Mankell I like all the books of both.
I enjoy the detective novels so if you share my taste, I recommend you read Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie and Henning Mankell principally the police serie "Kurt Wallander"... this is a web page which if you are interested in books of Mankell: http://www.lecturalia.com/autor/61/henning-mankell

ReplyDeleteI am really have not a favorite poem in English, but I can write some lines about it:
ReplyDelete"You are my treasure, my pearl, your important to my heart, you are my princess, mine inspiration, I am your joker, your love slave. you are my thought and my deepest feeling"
Hi.! Well I like several authors and different types of readings but my favorites are the novels. It`s rare that even though I`m very afraid to watch scary movies, read novels of terror I love. And one of my favorites authors is Lovecraft, he`s great with the terror! One of my favorites is "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" I highly recommend. Greetings fellow! :)
